Carmel, CA is known as one of one of the most pet-friendly cities in the United States. This boutique hotel is no different. The Cypress Inn boasts a dog-wash station, a list of approved pet sitters (if you want a night to yourself), and a daily “happy-hour” from 4-6pm. The co-owner, celebrity Doris Day, is an animal activist and wanted to create a hotel that allows you to bring along your best friend whether that be a dog or a potbelly pig.

This luxurious hotel was once voted one of the top 100 places to stay worldwide and also received a place on Conde Nast Traveler’s “Gold List”. You and your non-human friend will definitely feel pampered here with amenities like pet bedding, food and water bowls, doggy bags and organic treats. The architecture of the hotel perfectly captures a luxurious yet classic vibe, embodying the vintage SoHo aesthetic. The hotel is complete with its own dog park open seven days a week.

After living in Austin, I can personally tell you the city of Austin is very pet-friendly. There are countless parks, trails, hikes, and places on the water you can bring your dog to.
